Cliff Side Wraparound Deck

Saying this project was a fun one would be an understatement. It is one of those projects that you take on and wish you could do one after another! This timber frame deck took extensive time and precaution to get started. Along with clearing the brush off the bed rock we had to lay out the necessary spots to anchor into the cliff side.

Once the anchors were in we got right into pouring our footings for the decks and walkway. The walkway elegantly follows the infinity pools catch, allowing you to get a full panoramic view. Structural Support posts went in next, holding those pieces together we used custom made 1/4’’ plate steel saddles with 5/8’’ galvanized carriage bolts. When attaching to the concrete structure we used the same 1/4’’ plate steel for brackets and the 5/8’’ stainless-steel anchors we put in earlier.

When it came time for the decking we could not have been more excited. When we were looking at what direction to take on this deck with the customer, we knew they liked natural products and also wanted it to last as long as possible. Full dimension yellow cedar was specifically selected for the decking because it contains unrivaled properties for finish and natural oils to withstand our wet winter climates. All decking was double dipped in a custom formulated stain specific to this deck. Every joint and rip was gone over with three layers of stain on site.

Once all the decking was down and the final install was complete it was cleaned and a top coat of the same stain applied. This deck is beyond sturdy and with the cliff at your feet there is no better feeling then being able to enjoy the unparalleled view safely. With the proper care this deck will be on the cliffs edge for a very long time!
